Wills, Probate & Succession

Protecting Your Legacy and Your Loved Ones

Wills, Probate & Succession — Wangu Kariuki & Kariuki Advocates

Wills, estate planning, grants of probate and letters of administration, and transmission of assets — handled with care and clarity.

Planning for the future and dealing with the estate of a loved one are two of the most personal legal matters a family will face. We handle both with sensitivity, clarity and efficiency under the Law of Succession Act (Cap. 160).

For individuals, we prepare valid wills and estate plans that reflect your wishes, provide for your dependants and reduce the chance of family disputes. For bereaved families, we take the stress out of succession — from obtaining the chief's letter and filing the petition, through gazettement and confirmation of the grant, to transferring land, shares and bank accounts to the rightful beneficiaries.

Frequently asked questions

The estate is distributed under the intestacy rules of the Law of Succession Act. A family member must apply for letters of administration before any property can be transferred.

A grant can only be confirmed six months after it is issued. Uncontested matters typically conclude in 8–14 months; disputes take longer.

Yes — for example where a dependant was not reasonably provided for, or where the will was not properly executed. Professional drafting greatly reduces this risk.
